ENG 101 Research Essay: The Fight Against Intolerance
Intolerance of those who are different or have differing opinions has led to many conflicts throughout history. Your task is to choose one of the topics below and provide a well-researched discussion of a specific incident. Examine each topic closely and choose the one on which you think you will do the best job. As always, if you have questions about any of the following instructions, I am here to answer them. However, do not wait until the last minute to ask them.
PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE DOCUMENT AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THE ASSIGNMENT. It is simpler than Essay #2 because I tell you exactly what needs to go in each paragraph.
WARNING!
YOU WILL GET A BIG, FAT 0 on your Research Paper if you do not have any citations. Citations, you say, of course I’ll have citations. Well, guess what? Every semester, I have students turn in papers with no citations. Guess what grade they got on their research paper, and guess what that did to their final grade? So, I repeat, you must include citations in your Research Paper! Additionally, not only do you need citations, but you need to have direct quotes. At least one in at least two out of your three BODY paragraphs should do. Please see the following websites for help understanding and incorporating citations: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/mla_style/mla_formatting_and_style_guide/mla_in_text_citations_the_basics.html and/or

Sample Introduction about the Holocaust (PLEASE NOTE: This sample introduction paragraph looks long, but it is actually only 5 SENTENCES LONG. Part of writing a research paper is learning how to include vital information only.
Sample Introduction
Please Note: even though there are no direct quotes in the following sample introduction, some of the information is clearly taken from a source and not simply just known to the writer (that means me. For your Research Paper, the writer will be you). Therefore, you should cite from where you got that particular information (You must give credit where credit is due).
“During WWII, six million Jews and other groups, such as gypsies, homosexuals, and blacks, were mercilessly and systematically enslaved and slaughtered in what is known as The Holocaust” (Friedman 1).
