What’s not told about alcohol, tobacco and illegal drug use
   Illegal drug use is a foremost global public health issue facing individuals, families and society contributing to significant morbidity among youth and adults. Nowadays it is so normal to see tobacco, drugs, and alcohol advertised on television, music and social media, making it more attractive for youth specifically. Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day. According to recent data from CDC over 81,000 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States in 2020, the highest number of overdose deaths ever recorded in a 12-month period.
