Instructions:
All Initial discussion responses need to be answered with approximately 200-300 words and include at least one scholarly resource.
For this week’s discussion, please read chapter 26 and 27 in your Polit & Beck text.  Pick one concept that was difficult for you to understand OR a concept that was new to you that you learned about while reading these chapters.  Write a brief description of the concept you chose and the reason you chose that concept.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.
Peer Response
Instructions:
At least one response to classmates should also be completed.
Responses should add to the discussion.  For example, a probing question, further support with scholarly references, or respectful disagreement with scholarly references.
Please be sure to validate your opinions and ideas with citations and references in APA format.

One of the many new concepts I have not heard of before is Member Checking. This concept was used to establish credibility for qualitative data. Qualititaive data is data that is approximated and interperated, this data is not usually just numbers.
Member checking is the process in which a participant will review the feed back and interpretations taken during research by the researchers . This can be done while the data is being collected or after the fact. The participant will be able to confirm or deny the legitimacy of the data collected. Five approaches were developed for member checking:
Having participants review transcripts or transcribed data to confirm how accurate the findings are.
Conduct and interview the participant in interview form to confirm information
Conduct an interview with the participant using preliminary data
Conduct a group interview to analyze the data set
Conduct a check-in with participants via. letter or in person to confirm analyzed data interpreted by the researchers

For example, a participant of a study may receive a letter asking if the data collected matches their experience. The response of the member checking survey/letter with be added as data to the final study (Polit & Beck, 2019).
I picked this concept because I do believe that it would be a valuable tool to have member checking data included in a final research study. It brings helpful data and more credibility to the study.
