Thesis: The ignorance of pre-existing events in America makes us believe that it is the freest as well as the greatest nation in the world, but this freedom comes at the price of oblivious bliss, and it is a shame that most citizens are willing to pay it.
Claim 1: The classical lifestyle as well as the technological advancements that are constantly portrayed in the media play a big part in depicting the United States as a nation of peace and tranquillity. Ultimately, we tend to get the impression that the United States is the place that one needs to be. However, there is more than what meets the eye.
Quote One: According to a study by UN the United States is the most obese country in the world with the situation being so much dire that obesity is being regarded as national crisis contributing to more than 200,000 deaths annually (“Rising Obesity in The United States Is A Public Health Crisis”).
Quote Two: According to the CDC about 35.7% of the American population can be regarded as obese largely due to the trends that exist in the American society (“NOW AND THEN: The Global Nutrition Transition: The Pandemic of Obesity in Developing Countries”). The citizens of the country take in fried foods, processed meats as well as sugary drinks not forgetting the sedentary lifestyle.
Claim 2: It is preposterous that children who are learning to spell their names are also constantly undergoing training drills to help them face as well as react to life threatening situations that may occur in the classroom.
Quote One: 50% of the American population is not satisfied with the K-12 education with the country not ranking among the top 20 countries for the Best Education Systems (“U.S. Academic Achievement Lags That of Many Other Countries”).
Quote Two: From the year 2017-2020 the residents of America who believed that they truly resided in the “greatest” country in the world fell to a staggering 54% the lowest record in this particular century (“Incarceration Nation”).
Claim 3: The main reason as to why citizens and students constantly believe that America is the greatest country in the world is largely due to the fact that this concept is engrained in the students from the moment that they start school. The established education system fittingly leaves out any aspects of history that tend to show that America is nothing short of a heroic country and the only means of succeeding is through the progress of the country.
Quote One: Before the colonization of America, it is worth noting that over 100 million people who resided in America were slaughtered as they fought back to keep their home (Magazine, and Rosenbaum).
Quote Two: One in every five Americans is diagnosed with mental illness. Needless to say, the country ranks number one in prisoners and incarceration with the highest rate of drug use worldwide (“Incarceration Nation”).
Claim 4: Despite the shortcomings that the country has had, there are many facets that tend to make the country great and there is still more that can be done to ensure the progressive growth of the country towards making the country great.
Quote One: A good instance is the democratic process, whereby there is very little power corruption with a high regard of the basic human rights as well as high standards of living. In addition, the country provides civil stability and one of the largest economies in the world (“Incarceration Nation”). The large economy can be attributed to the various freedoms provided for by the country.
Quote Two: According to Pew the United States is ranked 7th globally and as for the global freedom front, America scored 86% with a 33 in regard to political rights and a 53 in regard to civil rights (“U.S. Academic Achievement Lags That of Many Other Countries”).
