The findings from this study can help to identify specific aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy which are effective for treating depression among ethnic minority females with a substance use disorder. Furthermore, the research evidence could clarify what subject characteristics (such as age, gender, ethnicity, level of education, etc.) should be targeted. Such group-specific treatments or interventions can lead to more favorable outcomes, as well as reduced cost for patient care. Any intervention developed as a result of this study can be incorporated into the existing treatment plans which are administered in clinics, hospitals, and private offices. As well, the information can be added to the curricular offerings by colleges and universities that train mental health practitioners. In addition, related professional development or continuing education workshops can be offered.
